Bridlewood

Bridlewood is an area in the southeastern part of Kanata. It is located south and west of the National Capital Commission. Formerly made up of farmlands, the suburban neighbourhood has seen steady growth in recent years and is now home to over 24,000 residents.

Bridlewood Housing

Bridlewood began to develop as a residential area in the 1980s in the northern part of the community. Prior to this period of development, the land was used for agricultural purposes. The suburb is mostly comprised of numerous townhouses, row houses and condos. It is also home to several elementary and secondary schools, including A.Y. Jackson Secondary School.

Bridlewood Jobs and Employment

The majority of Bridlewood residents head to the Kanata North Business Park, or further into downtown Ottawa, for work. The area has been plagued by traffic frustration due to the population density. City counsellors are working to combat congested rush hours leading in and out of the suburb.

Is Bridlewood A Safe Neighbourhood?

The Bridlewood Community Association (BCA) deals with various community matters including safety and security, the Neighbourhood Watch program, traffic volume concerns, and developer and zoning activity. The greater area of Kanata is considered the 5^th safest area in Ottawa, via the Ottawa Police’s statistics on crime.

Bridlewood Activities

Sports participation is significant in the Bridlewood area, especially among youth soccer programs. Bridlewood is also a community participant in the True Sports movement, which is a Canadian program espousing goals of ensuring positive and meaningful experiences for sports participants.

There are three strip malls in the community: Stonehaven Plaza, Eagleson Plaza and Bridlewood Square. The neighbourhood is also in close proximity to Kanata’s amenities, including the restaurants and stores at Kanata Centrum and the Tanger Outlets.
